Flea has announced that he is releasing a solo EP today entitled Helen Burns.
“Hi people who like The Red Hot Chili Peppers! I love you a lot! Mucho! Just wanted to give you a heads up about this little record 'Helen Burns' I am putting out on the Silverlake Conservatory website," said Flea.
"Warning! It is not a Chili Pepper record. It does not have songs that are like the Chili Peppers at all. It is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record, the music is mostly just me creating soundscapes that are very emotional for me, but certainly not for everyone! Just me tripping out at home. I am putting it out to raise money for The Silverlake Conservatory of Music a community based non profit music school that I am an integral part of. There you have it. See you all soon I hope!"
Additionally, there is a limited edition 180-gram vinyl that Flea personally signed and also includes an actual piece of a bass string that Flea used while touring. Only 900 copies are available. The vinyl can also be ordered on the Silverlake Conservatory website.

Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the video was shot in New Orleans, Louisiana and pays homage to the band’s long time friend Brendan Mullen.
Mullen is best known as the founder of the Hollywood punk rock club The Masque that he set up and ran from 1977 until it was shut down in 1978 due to the city’s refusal to issue the necessary permits to run it as a legal nightclub. After it’s closure, Mullen spent many years booking shows for Club Lingerie. It was during this time he met Anthony Kiedis and Flea and after hearing their demo, Mullen offered them an opening slot on a Bad Brains show. The Red Hot Chili Peppers credit him as one of their first major supports and giving them their start. Through his support and the many nightclubs he worked out the scene gave birth to not only the Red Hot Chili Peppers but bands like The Go-Go’s, X, The Weirdos and The Germs. The Red Hot Chili Peppers would like to thank all of the dedicated fans who helped create this video.
