Matthew Anderson is a freelance photographer based in Chicago, Illinois. He hails from the Washington D.C. suburb of Manassas, Virginia. He prefers to be called Matt.
Currently, Matt attends Columbia College Chicago where he is a junior undergraduate studying for his Bachelor of Arts in Photography with a concentration in Photojournalism. Before realizing that photography was his ultimate passion, he studied Jazz Guitar at Virginia Commonwealth University for two years before spending six months saving up to move to Chicago, the city he fell in love with.
Matt enjoys engaging in all different walks of photography. From shoothing weddings and corporate events to studio fine art shooting, but his ultimate passion is photojournalism. Matt hopes to work for a major publication with his degree covering sports, his second passion.
The name “Manderson Photography” comes from Matt’s high school nickname “Manderson” coined by his friend Phil combining his first and last names. It has stuck as something his friends back in Virginia still call him to this day.
When out shooting, Matt’s philosophy is great images with consistency and versatility. This is exemplified in the subtitle of Manderson Photography: “Embrace Vision.” The most important aspect of being a photographer to him is the person behind the lens, not the person’s equipment.
Ultimately Matt wants the people and things he photographs to have a universally aesthetic appeal with a subjective style all to their own.
